What I do for publishing and corporate clients
PUBLISHING CLIENTS
I took over the insurance beat at Reuters in 1992. For some reason, insurance was generally considered a bit of a backwater, but within months the near collapse of the Lloyd’s market was front page news around the world and my byline was appearing everywhere from Jerusalem to Jakarta.
The Lloyd’s story ran for several years as losses topped £8 billion, several desperate investors killed themselves and the whole thing dragged through the courts.
As the Lloyd’s story petered out, pension mis-selling and IRA bombs in the UK, hurricanes in the US and the growing awareness of global climate change ensured I was always busy. In the background, corporate consolidation bubbled away too.
Nowadays, I still write features, news, interviews, profiles, etc for specialist re/insurance and financial magazines. Topics include:
- Climate change and environmental issues
- Employment
- IT and the Internet
- Life and non-life insurance
- Pensions and investment
- Personal finance
- Reinsurance
- Risk
- Run off
CORPORATE CLIENTS
The work I do for corporate clients is very varied, with something new being added almost every year. It started out in 1998 contributing to a multi-national food producer’s annual report and has since ranged across:
- Articles for company magazines and newsletters
- Case studies
- Corporate award entries
- Customer information booklets
- Industry research reports
And I’m still open to new challenges.
